On the day it officially launches its BT Vision service, BT has also announced a tie-in with Irish broadcaster Setanta to broadcast live Premiership football games through its service.

Setanta successfully bid for the rights to 46 Premiership matches for the 2007/2008 season. BT already has an agreement with Sky to broadcast near-live Premier League matches through its BT Vision service, which means that BT customers will now have access to 75% of the 2007/2008 season’s Premiership matches.

The company has also confirmed its intention to show other football, including Scottish Premier League and Nationwide Conference games, European football and other sports, details of which are still to be confirmed. BT’s aim is to attract customers who prefer not to pay a monthly subscription, instead paying for what they want, when they want it.
