Christmas shopping starts earlier online

gift.pngLatest figures from Hitwise suggest that many UK consumers are starting their online Christmas shopping earlier than last year. Visits to the top 100 UK leading retailers was up 2% last week over the same week in 2005, and 6% over 2004.

Internet searches for ‘Christmas gifts’ have also increased, up 62% in the last week, and up 81% over last year.

Whether people are actually starting their Christmas shopping earlier, or doing more of it online, isn’t clear. I certainly haven’t started yet, and if you are planning to shop online for your Christmas pressies, it’s important to plan a little ahead – whilst you won’t be crammed in with a million other shoppers in your local precinct, you’ll have to take delivery times into account.
