Latest figures from Hitwise suggest that many UK consumers are starting their online Christmas shopping earlier than last year. Visits to the top 100 UK leading retailers was up 2% last week over the same week in 2005, and 6% over 2004.
Internet searches for ‘Christmas gifts’ have also increased, up 62% in the last week, and up 81% over last year.
Whether people are actually starting their Christmas shopping earlier, or doing more of it online, isn’t clear. I certainly haven’t started yet, and if you are planning to shop online for your Christmas pressies, it’s important to plan a little ahead – whilst you won’t be crammed in with a million other shoppers in your local precinct, you’ll have to take delivery times into account.
