Lite-on unveils external Blu-ray disc writer

We’ve seen a few internal Blu-ray internal drives announced of late, including models from BenQ and Philips, but not much in the way of external drives. Well, here’s one – the Lite-on LH-LX-2B1U.

Lite-on already has an internal drive on the way, the LH-2B1S, which is expected to ship in October. This external model should be seen on shelves nearer 2007. It’s capable of working with single and dual-layer Blu-ray media, including both recordable (BD-R) and rewriteable (BD-RE) discs at 2x speed. In addition, it will also write to writeable and re-writable DVD discs, including dual-layer versions, but doesn’t write to CD. Connectivity is via USB 2.0 interface.

A price is expected to be announced nearer to launch.
