BenQ has announced the details of its forthcoming BW1000 3-in-1 Blu-ray writer, also known as the Trio, along with a release date – which is set for late August.

BenQ’s internal drive writes to BD-R discs at 2x speed, to DVDs between 4x and 12x and to CDs at 32x speed. It will obviously playback Blu-ray content too – at a full 1,920 x 1,080 resolution as well. There’s also a host of features designed to dampen vibration and ensure data integrity, which should save you from ruining the fairly expensive Blu-ray discs.

Feature and price-wise, it’s not a million miles away from the recently-announced Philips TripleWriter, also due out in August and with a similar price point, which is around £550.
