The queues at the retailers last month probably told you as much, but today figures were revealed indicating how successful the launch of Nintendo’s DS Lite was – with 200,000 consoles shifting in just 10 days in Europe.

That puts DS sales in Europe over the five million mark – and with software like Brain Training and New Super Mario Bros. currently on most people’s "must have" lists, Nintendo has edged ahead in the handheld battle against rival format PSP. Nintendo’s big selling DS Lite title –  Nintendogs – has now sold over three million copies in total, with the more recently-released Brain Training already clocking up over 250,000 sale across Europe.

"During Nintendo DS Lite launch weekend, retailers across Europe said that they had never seen such a vast array of different people buying the product, everyone from business men to young women to grandfathers." said Nintendo of Europe’s European marketing director Laurent Fischer.
