iTunes movies on the way this year?

Rumours currently in circulation suggest Apple will announce movie sales through iTunes before the end of the year.

Apple chief Steve Jobs is keen to develop an online movie service, but there’s one very big sticking point – the price of downloads. According to a report on Forbes, Jobs has told the movie studios that he wants a $9.99 download price – and it’s not up for discussion. The studios, worried that a low price might force them to cut the price of movies sold throguh retail outlets, want a price nearer $20.

With such a gap in price points, a middle ground is sure to be met – possibly with different prices for older films, leaving the studios to make their mark up on newly released titles.

With all this talk of movie downloads, does it mean a new video iPod with a larger screen and improved picture quality? We’d expect so.
