Another nail in the coffin for the Palm operating system? Palm has unveiled its first smartphone with Windows Mobile at the CES Show in Las Vegas. The Treo 700W runs mobile versions of standard Microsoft applications – including Office and Outlook – natively rather than through third-party applications. Expected to retail for $399 in the US (without contract), the 700W also supports Microsoft Exchange e-mail servers straight out of the box. According to a Palm spokesperson, the company is diversifying into Windows solutions for mobiles because many companies have decided to user Windows only solutions for their portable devices.
