Yup, you heard it here first. The digital camera is apparently an endangered species, so says Carphone Warehouse’s UK Chief Executive, Andrew Harrison. ‘People just don’t want or need two devices,’ says Harrison ‘and as no-one leaves home without a mobile phone, this is how people will take photos in the future.’
Naturally this would all be seen as PR fluff were it not for the fact that The Register is reporting that shares in leading camera retailer Jessops have dropped on account of predictions of more moderate growth in the digital market.
Carphone Warehouse chose the story to highlight its Photography Proposition which will see more in-store staff with knowledge of camera phones, a range of interactive guides to help with camera selection and a facility that will allow customers to upload and print off photos.
