Sony's CES sideshow

It seems decidedly odd writing about Sony’s CES presence this year. For after dominating the exhibition for decades, in 2005 Sony’s stand was very much a side show, especially when compared with innovation-rich offerings from the Koreans. We did however see a few impressive new products.

Like most of the Americans who were getting their first glimpse of it, we loved the new Qualia 005 46 inch LCD TV. Picture quality really was sensational for a 46inch LCD and we really can’t wait to see this, and high definition transmissions, in the UK.

The Sony DSC-T33, the company’s slimmest ever digital camera, is also on our shopping list courtesy of its very impressive 5.1 mega pixel images and 2.5inch LCD screen. It reaches the UK in late January.

Other than the awesome NW-HD3 personal audio player (after two weeks on the road we have now ditched the iPod) and a few interesting camcorders that was about it. Maybe Sony will be back with a bang next year. Sony can’t let Samsung eclipse it two years running can it?
