Creative has launched new versions of its Zen Stone and Zen Stone Plus MP3 players, turning them into boomboxes by adding a built-in speaker. The Zen Stone will come in 1GB and 2GB models, while the Zen Stone Plus (pictured) will come in 2GB and 4GB flavours.
Both can play MP3 and WMA files, while the Zen Stone Plus can also play unprotected AAC files (i.e. iTunes Plus). I’m a bit unsure about the company’s boast that the devices “free people from headphones” – there are plenty of good reasons for listening to music through headphones in public, after all.
They’re available in black, dark blue, pink and champagne colours, and come with a translucent silicon skin, and a sporty armband holder. The Zen Stone Plus also has an FM radio on board. Both use drag’n’drop interfaces to get music onto the players, and offer up to 20 hours of playtime on one battery charge.
