The robot Actroid appeared at a Yokohoma department store – to encourage people to vote. The Yokohama Municipal Election Administration Commission planned the robot display to educate voters, as turnout for the unified local elections in Yokohama has not exceeded 50 percent since the start of the Heisei era in 1989. If a person doesn’t vote, I don’t think they’re going to start because a robot tells them to, however cute she may be. And pretty soon, the robots will start voting for themselves. [GT]
