HP introduces first ever web connected printer
Yeah printers are boring, we know. But not the HP PhotoSmart Premium with TouchSmart Web. Oh no. This printer is so far from boring, it’s positively intoxicating.
Ok, it’s not that exciting but as far as printers go, it’s pretty cool. You see, dear readers, the HP PhotoSmart Premium is the first printer that will connect directly to the web.
It has a 4.33-inch screen in order to access its internet apps. Yes, that’s right, I said apps. On a printer.
HP has struck up partnerships with USA Today, Google, Fandango, Coupons.com, DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, Web Sudoku and Weathernews so as users can select the relevant app and access, and directly print if required, news, maps, coupons, tickets, recipes, personal calendars and more – all at the touch of a button. Users can also connect directly to Snapfish to print their own digital photos.
The printer prints, faxes, copies and scans. It can print directly from Wi-Fi-enabled PCs, Bluetooth devices and the iPhone.
Out in the Autumn across the pond for $399, the model is expected in the UK next year.

HP launch Pavilion Slimline s5100 desktop PC
HP today announced the release of the HP Pavilion Slimline s5100 PC, a slimmed down tower desktop.
Reduced to a mere 11 litres in sizes, the tower will look positively diminutive in the presence of its more common 25 litre brethren.
“The HP Pavilion Slimline s5100 PC is a great full-function performance PC that will appeal to young-minded, style-conscious consumers”, says Charl Snyman, vice president, Personal Systems Group, HP Europe, Middle East and Africa (his title is 10 words long! Compensating for something their Charl?).
Running Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, the Slimline comes complete with built in 801.11 n WiFi and Bluetooth, as you’d expect, and an optional wireless keyboard and mouse. The Intel CoreTM 2 Quad and PhenomII X4 processor supporting Slimline is certainly a handsome brute, but it isn’t the TouchSmart is it?
It’s not a svelte all-in-one, although you could probably hide the tower behind the screen and pretend it was, that’s what I’d do.

HP launches Pavillion DV3 – £699 entertainment PC
Having launched their DV2 notebook, HP hasn’t decided to stop there. Today sees the announcement of the HP Pavillion DV3 entertainment laptop complete with 13.3-inch LED widescreen, 512MB NVIDIA GeForce G105M GPU and DVD RW/Blu-ray drive. A good start if you’re serious about film watching and gaming to the degree of £699.
It’s out from next month month in two colours dubbed Espresso and Moonlight because of the swirly coloured imprints you’ll be able to make out on the cases just over the jump. Got to admit they look quite nice and I won’t break their hearts by referring to them as black and white. Whoops.
You get a built-in 34mm remote control so you can set up and sit back, a 5-in-1 card reader for full compatibility and dual headphone jacks so that you and the Mrs/Mr don’t have to wake the baby.
It’s all served up with Windows Vista and the HP media software package and looks really quite reasonable for the cash. Naturally, the memory and processors will be negotiable on price.

HP DV2 Preview:
HP considering Android for forthcoming netbooks
Top laptop manufacturer Hewlett-Packard, or HP, has confirmed that it’s testing out Android as a operating system for forthcoming netbooks. Normally the platform is only used in phones, and at the time of writing there’s only one phone on the market that uses it.
Android can work on netbooks, as Venturebeat proved back in January. They had a little difficulty with graphics drivers, but if a user wasn’t rendering much more than websites then it could be very effective and very cheap – a great solution for the netbook industry.
HP has said that it hasn’t made any decisions yet on whether to offer it or not, but it’ll be interesting to see how they fare with it. Other netbook manufacturers will almost certainly be watching, too.

In a dark castle, somewhere in deepest Transylvania, HP’s bosses squint into a crystal ball. “What do you see?” says one. “Everyone’s in Barcelona at MWC” comes the reply. “Ah! So the last thing anyone would expect is for us to release five different mice and a webcam, with some targeted towards women!”.
Joking aside, here we’ve got four mice, a mouse-and-keyboard combo, and a webcam. They run the gamut of target audiences, from gamers to girls (not that two audiences can’t overlap) and they all look pretty, so I’ve stuck them in the gallery. Click on the flowery number below to begin.
HP launching two Pavilion laptops, and one Firebird desktop
HP has announced a couple of new notebook PCs in its Pavilion range, and a successor to its high-end Blackbird desktop – the Firebird. Let’s take a look at the notebooks first.
They’re named Pavilion dv2 and Pavilion dv3. The dv2 is a slim-and-light machine, with 3.8 pound weight, and thickness of just one inch. The full specs aren’t available, but it’ll include an AMD Athlon processor, 12″ display, “nearly” full-size keyboard, discrete graphics and up to 500GB of hard disc space. There’s an optional external Blu-ray drive, too.
HP shows off "Firefly" concept gaming laptop
Pity it’s just a concept, but at least one laptop that HP will be showing off at CES next week looks *amazing*. Laptop Magazine has managed to get a hands-on of the HP Firefly – an innovative gaming laptop. Click over the jump for the full details of this beast.

HP has introduced its latest notebook, the TouchSmart tx2. As the name suggests, it has touchscreen technology built in, allowing users to interact with various software using finger or stylus rather than the keyboard.

HP announces Mini 1000 and Compaq Mini 700 netbooks, including designer option
Just a couple of days after the leak, HP has announced details of the Mini 1000, in both standard and designer editions, as well as the Compaq Mini 700.
The HP Mini 1000, at 25.2mm thin and weighing 1.1kg, features a 10.2-inch widescreen display, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, either 8GB or 16GB SSD, webcam/mic, WLAN, and Bluetooth. Depending on operating system configuration, you can choose from 512MB or 1GB of RAM (XP Home) or 1GB/2GB (MIE Linux).
Bundled with the hardware is HP’s new Mobile Internet Experience software and HP MediaStyle, for “one-stop entertainment through a single interface”. In other words, it’s a dashboard interface which lets you play music, watch videos, visit favourite web sites, read email, and so on. Great for the everyday consumer, perhaps, but those wanting a stripped down netbook might want to turn off the “always on” applications…
