Cello may not be a company you’re that familiar with (at least I wasn’t until the product launch this lunchtime at the beautiful London Edition Hotel). But it’s actually that rare thing: a British electronics manufacturer. Whereas most TVs are made in the Far East, Cello actually make theirs in the North East – Bishop Auckland to be precise. And what’s more they are pretty good too!

The latest to roll off the production line is this 55inch QLED TV, demonstrated to Tech Digest at its launch today (September 11th, 2018). Similar to Samsung’s 55inch QLED TVs, but a little cheaper, the Cello 55inch C55SFS4K initially looks quite impressive, especially with its sub-£800 price tag.

Capable of 3840 x 2160 resolution, it’s an Android 7.0 4K Smart TV and comes with a number of additional TV catchup apps as standard, including SkyGo, Virgin Go and BT Sports.

It also boasts a range of integrated games courtesy of the Google Play store (including Fornite, of course) as well as its own smart TV platform, Cello Play. Cello claims that one of the main benefits of this 55inch TV, apart from picture quality, is its super fast interface that means it is able to access online content in under 10 seconds from the TV interface.

Certainly, Cello Play offers a particularly advanced TV/Internet experience, courtesy of an intelligent EPG that allows you to move forwards and backwards up to 7 days as well as a programme descriptions that integrate with online content including other video player apps (YouTube, iPlayer, ITV Hub etc.) as well as content from the Internet Movie Database (IMDb). It also comes with a compact WiFi remote with integrated mouse, further blurring the lines between today’s TVs and computers.

The slimline 55inch QLED TV features 4 HDMI sockets, 2USBs and a MicroSD card slot for possible recording of content

Screen size and type:
C55SFS4K QLED – 55” / 4K UHD widescreen

Says Brian Palmer, CEO of Cello:

“Our new QLED TV range rivals the quality of other high street brands, but at a fraction of the price, continuing our mission to provide superior, affordable viewing to the British public.

“The addition of Android 7 and Cello Play also provides seamless access to the very best functionality available to enhance the viewing experience. Our new smart TV offering is so good that we’re rolling it out across all Cello 4K and Full HD models to the benefit of a greater number of our customers.”

The new Cello QLED TVs are available from a range of retailers including Amazon, Freemans, JDWilliams, Studio catalogue, TV Village, e buyer, Buyitdirect, Sonic and directly from the Cello Electronics website.

Cello, which claims to be Britain’s only TV manufacturer, offers a large range of LED TVs with 14 screen sizes, ranging from 16” to 85”.
