OrCam153The OrCam MyEye 2.0 artificial vision device has won the Last Gadget Standing competition at CES 2018 after receiving the most online votes ahead of yesterday’s live event (11/1/18).

The OrCam MyEye 2.0, which will be launched in the UK this month, is a wearable device designed for people who are blind, partially sighted, and have reading difficulties.

It harnesses the power of cutting-edge artificial vision technology to enable users to read text off of any surface as well as to recognise faces, bank notes, and products.

Designed to be intuitive, and easy to use for people with visual impairments, the wireless device is magnetically mounted onto the user’s eyeglasses or sunglasses frame, and weighs less than an ounce.

OrCam MyEye 2.0 claims to be the only wearable artificial vision technology that is activated by an intuitive pointing gesture or simply by following the wearer’s gaze – allowing for hands-free use without the need of a smartphone or Wi-Fi.

Another new feature is LED lighting which can illuminate text, faces, products, and currency notes in low light environments, making the MyEye 2.0’s text reading and facial/object recognition even more powerful.

Identification of consumer products via barcode scanning, colours, and money notes also provides users with greater levels of independence.

OrCam MyEye 2.0 is the culmination of intense research and development by leading minds in the Computer Vision and Machine Learning fields. Says Prof. Amnon Shashua, Co-founder, Chairman, and CTO at OrCam.

“Thousands of users around the world have incorporated OrCam’s technology and rely on it in their daily lives. The second generation OrCam MyEye 2.0 will enable many thousands more to adopt the revolutionary device.”

Last Gadget Standing is the longest running, and one of the most popular, competitions at CES, and while the finalists are chosen by a panel of expert judges, the final winners are decided by an online vote as well as a live audience vote, at an event hosted by Yahoo Tech founder, David Pogue.
