Amazon has announced that some of the content on Amazon Instant Video is now available in 4K quality… if you’ve got a capable TV.

This makes Amazon one of the first movers when it comes to the forthcoming 4K revolution, with Ultra HD shows including Amazon’s own Alpha House, as well as the BBC’s Orphan Black – and the rest of this year’s Amazon Studios releases: Mozart in the Jungle, Bosch, Hand of God, The After and Red Oaks.

Films-wise Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Funny Girl, Hitch and Philadelphia will all be available in 4K to Amazon Prime customers at no extra cost (all of the films are from Sony Pictures).

To watch in a dizzying 3840×2160 resolution, you’ll need a compatible smart TV from LG, Samsung or Sony – with Amazon promising more to come.
