Exciting news for fans of endless tapping and frustration – Flappy Bird is coming back to the app store in August.

According to CNBC, Dong Nguyen, who created the infamous app has said that the new version will include both multiplayer capabilities and be “less addictive” (yes, less addictive).

The app became something of a phenomenon last year receiving 50 million downloads, as gamers challenged themselves to persevere with the tricky game – apparently raking in $50,000 a day. Nguyen then took the game offline – citing the stress of being the creator of something so unintentionally popular.

CNBC claim that he said he’d “rather people spend their time doing more productive things rather than attempt to guide a cartoon bird through pipes to rack up a high score”.

He’s right – that’s why I’ve spent the last couple of months endlessly shifting blocks around to attempt to reach 2048.
