550w_knightmare_3.jpgDungeoneers, dust off your Helmets of Justice – cult kids TV show Knightmare is returning for a one-off special web episode as part of YouTube’s Geek Week season.

Airing on Monday 5 August, the Knightmare special will be produced by series creator Tim Child and hosted by Knightmare’s original presenter Hugo Myatt (Treguard). He’ll be joined by British comedians including Isy Suttie (Dobby from Peep Show) and Jessie Cave (Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter films), as well as YouTube stars Dan “danisnotonfire” Howell, Phil “AmazingPhil” Lester, Emma “emmablackery” Blackery and Stuart “ashens” Ashen.

For the uninitiated, Knightmare tasked a team of teenage “Dungeoneers” with exploring a fantasy world, the twist being that only one contestant would enter the dungeon, with their view obscured by an oversized barbarians helmet, necessitating the barked teamwork of their pals to navigate puzzles. Blue screen effects were used to bring the fantasy world to life, as well as real actors. Many a real nightmare was caused by the Dungeoneer’s “life-force” slipping away, with their dwindling energy represented by a disembodied head, skin peeling away with every step.

Many episodes of the classic show have already been posted on YouTube, and they make for hilarious and compelling viewing in spite of (or maybe because of?) the aged computer visuals used.Besides the Knightmare show, plenty more geeky content will be spread across the week, with each day running a specific theme.
