Sharp’s new president Takashi Okuda has revealed that his company will begin shipping new screens for Apple’s iPhone 5 this month.
Speaking at a press briefing in Tokyo on Thursday following Sharp’s quarterly earnings call, Okuda stated that “shipments will start in August”.
Though he didn’t give a more specific date for shipments beyond this month, it lines up well with rumours suggesting that Apple have a major product launch planned for September 12th of this year.
Sharp sit alongside LG and Japan Display Inc as panel providers for Apple.
Though Apple have yet to make any announcements concerning their next-generation handsets, rumours describe a thinner, lighter handset with a 4 inch screen – 30% larger than that of the existing iPhone 4S.
