Reports are coming in that the latest PlayStation 3 firmware update (version 3.61), designed to counteract the hacking attack that saw Sony’s PSN network down for the best part of a month, is causing consoles to freeze or switch off.
An official Rockstar support page first detailed the problem, following reports that users playing the publisher’s latest game, L.A Noire, found their consoles crashing at random intervals. Overheating issues were thought to be to blame, particularly in early 60GB and 80GB fat-generation consoles.
Stressing that the support page was not officially backed by Sony, Rockstar have since taken the page in question down, while Sony have responded with the stock company line of “We don’t comment on rumours or speculation about our products.”
