Sony Ericsson have just announced a neat little accessory for select Android-based smartphones. The LiveView is a 1.3 inch device with an OLED screen that wirelessly connects to your phone, giving you a quick glimpse of what’s going on with your handset.
Weighing just 15 grams, the LiveView can be either clipped onto a bag or keychain, or onto your wrist with a provided strap. It then allows you to quickly check what’s happening with your phone, providing you with notification when text, Twitter or Facebook messages come through, as well as letting you screen calls and control music playback.
Mikael Henriksson, Head of creation and offering planning at Sony Ericsson Extras, said: “It is our ambition to be THE Communication Entertainment brand and this includes being the most open mobile phone brand on the market. We believe in openness and offering consumers a wide range of applications to choose from. We will continue to develop accessories to ensure we play a major and groundbreaking role in the market and design innovative and exciting accessories for all platforms, including Android.”
Henriksson continued: “The Sony Ericsson LiveView™ is the first Sony Ericsson accessory to be compatible with the open Android™ platform which gives developers an opportunity to be creative and develop the next must-have innovative application.”
Compatible handsets include the Sony Xperia X10 range, the Samsung Galaxy S and the HTC Desire. The LiveView will work with the LiveWare manager application, a platform for searching for LiveView compatible Android apps.
Due out later this year as part of a Sony Ericsson Experience pack, no price details have yet been released.
