facebooknew.jpgFacebook have announced the formation of a Safety Advisory Board in an effort to show their commitment to web safety and online privacy. With more and more users signing up for Facebook every day, and an increasing number of those being children, the issue of safety is becoming an ever growing concern for Facebook.

Five internet safety regulation groups will make up the majority of the advisory board. The board is set to include members of ConnectSafely, WiredSafety, Common Sense Media, Childnet International and The Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI). The mix of North American and European advisors will act as consultants to the growing social network on issues of online safety and educating their user base to the pitfalls of careless internet use.

Facebook is already a partner in MTV’s “A Thin Line” campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the damage caused by cyber bullying.
