Canon goes touch screen with the Digital IXUS 200 IS

Digital-IXUS-200-.jpgThere has been touch screen facilities on cameras for quite a while now so it is a bit surprising to lean that Canon has only just debuted its first ever digit-screen friendly snapper.

The 12 mega pixel Digital IXUS 200 IS sounds a lot cleverer that many of its predecessors though for canon claims that once you tap the 3.0 inch widescreen to ‘point’ at the face you want to focus on the camera will automatically track your subject and keeping them in perfect focus. The user can also use the touch screen while reviewing to erase, protect, rotate or tag your photos.

The IXUS 200 IS hosts another first for Canon in that it marks the debut of 24mm ultra wide angle lens in a Digital IXUS camera. Canon claims this offers a wider perspective than conventional wide-angle lenses and is very good for large group and landscape shots.

Other features include 5x optical zoom, scene detection technology for optimising the image and a super slim body. It is available in Blue, Gold, Purple, or Silver and will go on sale in September 2009 priced at £329.
