Aren’t we well shot of lava lamps? They were useless. Students liked them, I suppose. Anyway, Aquallusion is a company happy to cite lava lamps as inspiration for its iTube light, which combines sound, colours and a cool visual effect resembling bubbling water.
“It’s swirling and bubbling with mesmerising patterns,” said Harvey Bernfeld, who was manning the stand at CES Unveiled tonight. “We’re billing this as the 21st century lava lamp. You just plug in, and the party’s on, man! It interfaces with your iPod or any other MP3 player, or hook it up to your home audio system as a satellite.
It’s costing $249 in the US, and Aquallusion hopes to secure European distribution in the near future. The company might also develop other shapes and sizes in the future. “You can get much larger, get a whole lot more sound and a whole lot more out of the visuals,” said Bernfeld.
