The problem with pocket drives is just that – they’re small enough to lose or leave around. And if your personal and business information is on there, you really don’t want it easily accessible. That means a growing emphasis on security – in fact, that’s the big selling point with these Cruzer Professional and the Enterprise USB drives from Sandisk.

The Cruzer Professional and Cruzer Enterprise feature password protection and virtually ironclad data security through hardware-based 256-bit AES encryption. Hardware-based encryption is supposedly more reliable than the software-based security used in most consumer USB drives with password protection – because software-based protection relies on a host computer – which is open to spyware and other threats – to perform security.

The drives are also fast, with read speeds of 24 MB/s and write speeds of 20 MB/sec. Both are available now in the US in sizes from 1GB to 4GB, priced from $54.99. They’re expected in Europe from July, with prices confirmed nearer launch.
