Mustek's YouTube-friendly DV520T mini camcorder

Mustek is going down the ‘buzz word’ route, pitching its new DV520T mini camcorder as the ideal accessory for the ‘YouTube generation’.

It’s small enough to fit into your pocket or bag and takes movies in VGA-quality MPEG4 video at 30 frames-per-second with sound, along with still images at 5.2 megapixels, WAV voice files, as well as MP3 playback. Storage is on a 64MB hard drive or memory cards up to 2GB, with PC connectivity via USB and direct TV hook-up with the included AV cable. There’s also 8x digital zoom and a two-inch swivel screen.

Available in early June, initially in the US, it retails for $129 with rechargeable batteries, AV cable, universal power adapter, cradle, stereo headphones, pouch, strap and editing software all included.

  • I have had this for a couple of months (I live in Europe, and LIDL sold this under the Silvercrest label).
My evaluation: Positive: very compact, lots of features, great for outdoors. Negative: terrible indoors (low light conditions), digital zoom reduces resolution to ‘ugly’, flash is way too strong.
