There’s nothing pointless about wind turbines or the technology behind this solar-powered device – it’s the lack of an end-product. The turbine comes in kit form, which takes around 5 minutes to fix together (11 parts in total). Once connected, a blast of bright sunshine (or some light from a lamp) will get the thing turning, courtesy of the solar cell on the top.
All well and good – but unlike full-size turbines, this 24cm turbine doesn’t actually power anything – it just adds some novelty to your desk. But if that appeals to you, it’s available now for around £20.
