In the wake of today’s dramatic security developments you may have missed the fact that the US Department of Homeland Security issued a rare alert yesterday, urging Windows PC users into download and install a Microsoft Critical Fix as soon as possible. The MS06-040 patch fixes a security hole that can allow hackers to take complete control of a PC. It’s a similar threat to the MSBlast worm that was doing the rounds three years ago. It exploits a loophole in Windows Remote Procedure Call networking support facility and it affects all versions of Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003 SP1.
