USRobotics' Skype speakerphone hits the UK

We previewed USRobotics’ Skype Speakerphone when it was unveiled at this year’s CES. Well, now you can pick it up in the UK.

The USR 9610 USB Internet Speakerphone (to give it the full name) makes Skype calls hands free. With powerful echo cancellation technology, volume and mute buttons and full-duplex operation, the USR9610 works just like a traditional speakerphone. Plug into a USB port and the phone operates as an external sound device, so you can talk to your Skype buddies whilst answering a few emails. And obviously, there’s no need for an external adapter – it’s powered by your PC.

You can pick up the USR 9610 USB speakerphone now for around £50.

  • I bought an OEM version of this device at this store: http://www.idgear.ca/product_info.php?products_id=158

As far as I can tell it is the same device. I have to disagree with your opinion, though as it works perfectly for me. We have a small conference room for about 6 people and the device provides a clear sound and everybody can hear everybody. I’d give it 4/5.

  • I tried it, it doesn’t work.
Purely and simply, it’s cheaply built.

Anything other than 3 or 4″ from my face and there’s no output volume according to my guinea pig at the other end.
Turn up the mic sensitivity results in the ambient noise and the echo-delayed noise garbling my voice.
Turn off the speaker volume and it works fairly well.

Doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose of a SPEAKER phone?

It’s going straight back to where I bought it from for a refund.

On a scale of 1-5, I’d rate it below zero.
