Sony/Vodafone – back in black

Interesting news from Sony and Vodafone. The two huge companies have apparently inked a deal whereby Sony is to licence its music to the phone networks to be used on real music ringtones, polyphonic ringtones, artist images, video streaming and short video downloads.

Apparently international Sony Music artists including AC/DC, Anastacia, Incubus, Nas, Sertab, Jessica Simpson and Train will have their content featured on Vodafone live!

So is Vodafone set to launch a music service to rival that offered by O2 with its over the air direct to phone music download system? If it is it doesn’t mention it in the press release. More likely Vodafone will be plugging music video downloads to its subscribers via its 3G service.
