BSquare launches in UK

Mobile phones

Vodafone is set to bring one of the US hottest smartphones to the UK. The BSquare Power Handheld pairs a microsoft Windows CE.Net operating system with a large (4inch) LCD screen, which the company claims is ideal for web surfing and reading e-mail.

The device also features an integrated full QWERTY keyboard that is cleverly housed within the screen and then pulled down when the user needs it.

According to BSquare the device’s USP is that its screen is large enough to display many websites in full and has no need to reformat them as other devices with smaller screens do.

It is powered by a 400MHz Intel XScale processor and contains 64MB or 128MB of RAM, depending on which specification you choose, and 32MB or 64MB of flash memory.

There’s no integrated Bluetooth or Wi-fi though these can be added via the devcies’s SDIO slot.

Battery life is rated at four hours’ talk time, three hours web browsing and 120 hours standby time.

There’s no sign of the device on the Vodafone website yet, so we have no idea of prices. The company has said that the device is available in limited quantities and is aimed ostensibly at the corporate market.
