Rewriter's format frenzy

Do we still care that there are three competing rewritable formats? Not a great deal, for most of the time write-once discs are more than adequate and besides Blu-ray technology is just over the horizon, which hopefully will make the current DVD format war irrelevant as well as deliver discs with huge amounts of storage.

Still, there’s a neat new PC DVD writer from LG which could solve a lot of potential problems in the short term. The GSA-4040B’s USP is that it is apparently the only model which writes to DVD+RW, DVD-RW and even DVD-RAM discs. On sale now priced at around £200
