The Samsung Galaxy S2 is all lined up to walk away with this year’s top smartphone awards (unless the iPhone 5 pops up and does something really special anyway), but it’s going to push many bank balances to their limits. Offering much the same expereince for what is expected to be a drastically lower price is the Samsung Galaxy R, which has just popped up in a spy video online.

Looking much like the Samsung Galaxy S2, the Galaxy R’s main cost-cutting feature is the screen. You’re getting a 4.2 inch Super LCD screen here rather than the S2’s superb 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus.

Under the hood is presmued to be a 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, while a 5MP camera capable of 720p video recording sits on the back. Android 2.3, re-skinned with Samsung’s Hubs, is the OS of choice.

Not sure if this one will ever make it to the UK yet, as it seems intended for eastern markets. Not a bad spec sheet by any measure though, so we’ll keep an eye on how this turns out.
