98,000 apps will be without an iPhone-home this Christmas.
The iTunes App Store may have hit the 100,000 app milestone, but of that vast number of programs how many actually get used? According to analysis by AppsFire only around 2%.
AppsFire found that once you reach the 1000th app (in terms of popularity) on the App Store, only 1.76 percent of iPhone owners have the program installed. Get to the 2000th program and the amount of active installs all but disappears.
It's a startling find, suggesting that roughly 98,000 programs have bombed at the store.
When you consider that only 2,000 iPhone apps have proved popular, the Android Marketplace's 10,000 offerings suddenly do not sound so modest.
