Friendster set to sell for £60 million
Founded in 2002, it was one of the earliest popular social networks, and has over 100 million active users.
Now it has hit 300 million users how much bigger can Facebook get?
One of the problems it faces is that in key territories there are already local social networking sites that have a Facebook style stranglehold already. In Korea Cyworld, with its 24 million members, has managed to keep Facebook and its rivals at bay. In Central America the big player is Sonico and further south in countries like Argentina Hi5 sets the agenda
Imagine if Friendster had bought Facebook…
You might laugh at the thought, but apparently Friendster (remember them?) could have snapped up Facebook for a pittance a few years ago, when it was just another struggling startup. At least, that’s what Bebo co-founder Jim Scheinman says – and since he used to work at Friendster too, he should know.
