It looks like Pope Francis may finally be upgrading to an iPad Air 2 – as his old iPad has been sold at auction in Italy.

The iPad, which appears to be the original iPad 1 was apparently initially given by the Pope to Uruguayan priest Gonzalo Aemilius, but then he gave it to a school for the poor in his country. So the $30,500 will be used for good instead of either evil or neutral.

According to Reuters, the iPad is inscribed with the text “His Holiness Francisco. Servizio Internet Vatican, March 2013”.

Sadly, there doesn’t appear to be any details on what apps the Pope used.
