Software giant Microsoft seems pretty confident that its Surface Pro 3 is a viable replacement for Apple’s MacBook Air.

The company is bribing Apple users to switch their allegiance by offering customers in the US, Puerto Rico and Canada up to $650 as a trade-in for their MacBook Air when they buy the new Surface Pro.

The deal runs until July 31 and can’t be combined with other offers. Since the base Surface Pro 3 starts at $799, customers will still have to pay at least $150 to make the switch.

But there are conditions – Microsoft will not just take any old MacBook Air.

“To be eligible for trade-in, device must power on to be considered working,” the company says. “Water-damaged devices and devices with cracked screens are not considered working devices for purposes of this offer.”

There is no word yet on whether Microsoft will offer a similar exchange deal elsewhere in the world.
