bbc-hq-logo.jpgPlayStation 3 owners and those with other connected devices with access to Sony’s Entertainment Network will soon be able to enjoy VOD sports content from a new BBC Sports app.

The app will have reams of video content from “key sporting events during the summer and beyond”, according to the EU PlayStation blog.

2,500 hours of video will come courtesy of the London 2012 Olympic Games alone, with as many as 24 simultaneous HD feeds of events ready to be viewed.

Other sporting events lined up for coverage include the annual Wimbledon tennis tournament and the Formula One season.

Though no precise release date has been announced, Sony have promised that the app will land prior to this year’s Wimbledon competition, pencilling it in for a launch sometime before the 25th June.
