VIDEO: Energy & Efficiency, Episode 2
Today, I’m looking at renewable energy sources, with this video review of a wind-up torch. Is it a good idea? Does it work? Is manual electricity generation a viable alternative to traditional plugs, bulbs and power leads? Let’s find out!
I apologise for the poor sound quality.
In summary, wind-up torches work, but require constant winding. There is an additional energy saving to be found…
REVIEW: Raptr – A social network for gamers
Raptr is a new social network that launched today which focuses on gamers. I’ve had a quick play around with it, and I’m actually very impressed. The services tracks your Xbox Live, PS3 and Wii gaming, as well as Steam, Guitar Hero, XFire, and World of Warcraft on the PC. When someone in your friends list starts a game on any of those services, an alert pops up and you can jump right in and join them…
Shiny Video Review: Guitar Hero Rocker
Guitar Hero for the Xbox 360, Wii or PS3 is pretty expensive, particularly if you want a second guitar peripheral to battle it out with your mates. If you’re looking for something similar, but under £30, don’t look further than the Guitar Hero Rock, at IWOOT.
Costing £29.99, it’s a belt that lets you strum your air guitar silly to popular riffs such as Iron Man, Smoke on the Water and Ace of Spades….
ASUS Eee 1000H reviewed by Laptop Mag, is "least Eee-like Eee yet"
Since the Eee 1000H was first announced by ASUS, many have been left wondering if it really counts as a sub-notebook, or netbook, if you will. At 10″ in size, and $649 in price, it’s not far off a normal sized – and priced – laptop.
If you can forgive ASUS for those two points, you will find yourself with an amazing notebook by the sounds of things, with Laptop Mag claiming it’s “the least Eee-like Eee yet”, however “the most productive”, and that “everything’s gravier than past models, ‘cept the price”. Worth pointing out is that the battery life seems much improved upon, with the reviewer getting 4 hours and 28 minutes when connected to Wi-Fi!…
Shiny Video Review: Nokia N78 mobile phone
Nokia let the N78 out of the bag at the MWC expo back in February, detailing impressive specs such as a 3.2-megapixel camera, Nokia Maps plus A-GPS, and Nokia Music Store compatibility. It’s £299 SIM-free, otherwise…
Shiny Video Review: Sanyo Xacti CG9 camcorder
We quite often use Sanyo Xacti camcorders to film product launches, so I can vouch for just how easy they are to use. Lucy tested out the new CG9, which sadly they sent us in – gulp! – pink, although it’s also available in black and silver.
Video is filmed in MPEG4 AVC/H.264 format, which you can save to an SD or SDHC card. Photos are taken…
Shiny Video Review: Canon IXUS 970 IS digital camera
Continuing her fascination with digital cameras, Zara checks out the Canon IXUS 970 IS in today’s video review. Will the 10-megapixel 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor impress her? The 5x optical zoom thrill her? And the £250 price-tag astound her? Take a look above to find out…
Shiny Video Review: Nokia 6600 Fold mobile phone
Stocking 3G internet, a touch-screen and 2.0-megapixel camera, you’d be right in thinking the Nokia 6600 Fold is a fairly decent phone. Or is it? Zara’s put it to the test in the video above…
Shiny Video Review: Trekstor iBeat Sonix MP3 player
Lucy loves her garage music (which makes for some interesting sessions in the office when she puts her CDs on), so she was the perfect person to review this iBeat Sonix MP3 player from Trekstor…
Shiny Video Review: Motorola Z10 mobile phone
It’s not often Susi finds a gadget that she doesn’t get along with, however there was just something about the Motorola Z10 that drove her crazy. Running on the S60 platform, the HSDPA phone has a 3.2-megapixel camera and captures QVGA video at 30fps. The idea behind the Z10 is that it’s all about…
