Microsoft executive claims security flaws are patched quicker in Windows than other operating systems

vistaosx.pngJustified or not, Microsoft get a lot of flak for the security of their Windows operating system. Now, Jeff Jones, who is strategy director of Microsoft’s security technology unit, has posted findings to show that Microsoft releases patches for vulnerabilities in Windows faster than Apple, Novell, Red Hat, and Sun do for their respective operating systems.

Symantec (who we know aren’t exactly best buds with Microsoft) has acknowledged Microsoft’s findings.

The calculations show that Windows had under 29 days of risk last year, compared to 46 days for Mac OS X, 74 days for SuSE Linux Enterprise, 107 days for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and 168 for Sun Solaris.

iPhone opens up to developers via current web standards: No complicated SDK needed

Andy Merrett writes…

Developers have been waiting for some time to find out exactly if and how they can create applications for the iPhone – and yesterday Steve Jobs told them.

At his opening Keynote speech to the World Wide Developers’ Conference, he made it clear that the iPhone would handle applications, and they’d all run using Web 2.0 and AJAX technologies via the updated version of the Safari web browser.

I’ve already written that developers may now take notice of Safari because of the iPhone, and this effectively seals the deal.

So, I’ll keep this brief and say that it’s now officially launched, with the first units being made available in the US on online retailers’ sites, such as Buy.com, Costco and Provantage. Any of our US readers who want to plonk down…

Cos I’ve had the time of my life, oh and I owe it all to youuu… and my Dirty Dancing PC video game.

Oh god. Shield your eyes, quick, quick! You better sit down. We have some…some bad news to tell you. Remember that hooker-pink coated ’80s institution of a film you thought you left behind along with polar-fleece cut-off muscle tops, white hi-top Reeboks and that perm you thought really complimented your mullet? Yes, I’m talking Dirty Dancing, and the video game it’s being turned into.

Obviously showing us that not even Patrick Swayze is sacred, Codemasters and Lionsgate are collaborating to produce an action-puzzler due to hit every 30-something woman’s PC late this year. Oh, and Graham Norton’s too…
