Sony unveils 34 new VAIO notebook PCs across six series

sony_vaio_type_c_notebook_pcs.jpgSony has gone overboard with its latest selection of VAIO notebook PCs, offering 34 choices across six different series.

Briefly, these are series C, F, R, S, T, and “TV PC”, though as these are initially destined for the Japanese market, I’m gleaning their specifications from a rough translation of the Japanese press release.

The VAIO Series C seems to be as much about colour as it is about features, with notebook casing coming in a variety of lush shades including indigo blue, luxury pink, pure white, and an untranslatable shade of red.

It seems as if the PC can play back audio and video without having to be fully booted – it certainly has dedicated buttons for multimedia. It also has a built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam, a 14.1-inch widescreen LCD, and is just 2.1cm thick.

Giles Deacon for Intel Asus W5 limited edition laptops

Fancy our fashionably-attired sisters over at Catwalk Queen, getting the scoop on a new laptop range from Intel before us! Alright, so they have been designed by legendary fashion designer Giles Deacon, but that hasn’t stopped us from getting in a strop that they found out before us.

I might’ve said yesterday that I would never own a fashion mobile phone, like the new possible Samsung/Armani collaboration, but I think I’ll have to swallow my words already, less than 24 hours later, as I’d happily buy one of these fashion laptops…

Destroy your Mac laptop and use it to control Pong's paddles

wiipongmac.jpg
You’d be forgiven for thinking Tech Digest had turned into a blog focussing purely on ways to hack the game Pong and play it through various mediums other than your arcade or Atari systems. No, we’re not renaming ourselves Pong Digest, much to the distress of these guys, sorry.

One such Pong-enthusiast has created a version of the game to run on his Mac laptop using the sudden motion sensors and microphone. People who smother their Macs in protective laptop cases or daren’t take it out into the wild should avoid this game, as it actually involves ohmygod tilting your laptop vigorously and potentially harming your laptop’s microphone by screaming into it. Tilting the laptop controls the direction of the paddle as you’d expect, and raising your voice, by say, screaming into the microphone, actually increases the size of the paddle.

Take a look at the video under the jump for some Apple/Pong-hybrid humour, and the link where you can actually download the game for yourself…

Opinion: Free laptop deal looks good

Jon_smal.gifJonathan Weinberg writes…

Let’s face it, who among us is ever going to turn down a free gift – especially when it’s worth up to £500. Well, that’s the prospect facing techno shoppers at Carphone Warehouse, Currys and PC World this week.

You couldn’t have failed to see the ads in the newspapers over the weekend proclaiming the gratis machines in return for signing up to broadband with the likes of Orange and AOL. ‘So where’s the catch?’ I hear you ask. ‘There’s always a catch!’

Well, you’re right, to get the free laptop you are tied into a contract with the firms for two years and yes, the machines aren’t super-spec’d enough to suit most Tech Digest readers. But in terms of getting people interested in technology and onto the interweb superhighway, it has to be good news…

Turn your kids all Sith-like with this Star Wars Darth Vader laptop

DarthVaderKidsLaptop.jpg
I just saw these Darth Vader laptops from Oregon the other day in person, and before I had the chance to write about them, Alex at Shiny Shiny beat me to it. We’re just too good here, *hair flick*

Aimed at kiddywinks, or your mate who resembles Nick Frost just a little too much for comfort, these ‘laptops’ are actually activity centres for children which contain ‘mind-blowing games in logic, music and other breathtaking activities’. Use the interactive light sabre and ‘choose a learning path with Darth Vader’,..
