Pope Benedict XVI promises to send "daily inspirational text messages" to Australian Catholics

pope-ratzinger(2).jpg

Turns out the Pope is a dab hand at texting, as he’s promised his Australian worshipers a little daily SMS fun.

He’s apparently visiting the country later this year, where he’ll send out “daily inspirational text messages” to all who sign up for the service, and in a spot of publicity you just can’t pay for (GOD PREFERS TELSTRA!), he’ll be using the phone network Telstra’s 3G service for reaching his internet-bound friends via webcasting…

CrackBerry.com gets hands-on with the unreleased BlackBerry 9000

After watching this video, I’ve decided I’m definitely trading in my Pearl 8110 for the upcoming 9000. Not yet released, CrackBerry.com acquired one of those handsets that mysteriously found their way on eBay at the end of April, and boy, is it impressive.

Voters who participated in Time Magazine’s recent ‘100 Most Influential People of 2008’ list obviously felt the same way as I did, with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto crowned the year’s most influential.

Following him at number two and three are Rain and Stephen Colbert (you can view Colbert’s dance-off with the Korean popstar here), with the next notable technology luminaries being Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales at 18, ‘The Google Guys’ at number 20, and Microsoft’s Bill Gates in at 27th spot…

dead-pleo-2.jpg

Uh-oh. Looks like Ugobe has been bombarded with plenty of negative feedback from Pleo enthusiasts since the video taken at Maker Faire on the weekend found its way on many blogs across the internet!

Posted on the PleoWorld forum, a Ugobe representative claims “the folks that were behind this stunt did it without authorization or approval. It seems the prankster spirit overcame them, and FYI, there was quite a ruckus here in the office about it today. Many people were shocked and appalled, including the UGOBE reps at our Maker Faire booth!”…

panasonic-dmp-bd50.jpg

Trade press first saw the DMP-BD50 in January at CES, however it’s taken Panasonic this long to confirm the pricing and availability, which were just announced in the US this week.

The all-singing, all-dancing Blu-ray player sports Blu-ray Profile 2.0 (BD-Live), and decodes and outputs via bit stream both aurally delicious Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats, making it a key player in the market. In addition, it…

HTC Diamond Vs. Apple iPhone – the ultimate specs comparison

htc-apple-face-off.jpg

The Touch Diamond handset was announced on Tuesday by HTC, and as expected, every blog and newspaper is calling it the first real ‘iPhone killer’. And here was me thinking we’d expired that term!

Obviously, the Diamond and iPhone have some similarities (even hired similar hand-models!), but the main difference which is dividing everyone’s affections boils down to the original format wars – Mac vs. PC. Want a concise break-down of the pros and cons of each mobile? Whoomp, there it is – below the jump…
