TrustedPlaces social networking site links up with Facebook

trusted_places.gifThe UK-based social networking site TrustedPlaces, which relaunched in February, has now announced new features, and collaboration with Facebook.

Thanks to Facebook opening itself up to application developers, its members can now access TrustedPlaces and seamlessly ‘roam’ its content, and share relationships across the two communities.

New features at the TrustedPlaces include the ability for members to upload video reviews of their favourite places. They are also encouraging members who have met online to meet in the real world.

High-value consumers want Net Neutrality: no two-tier Internet

broadbandmodem.jpgTim Berners-Lee has spoken out against it, now new research suggests that high-value Internet consumers in Europe want flat-rate pricing on their broadband service without Internet Service Providers (ISPs) placing restrictions on what they can access.

JupiterResearch, which carried out the Europe-wide study, is urging ISPs not to supply faster, prioritised Internet access only to a select group of web sites that pay for improved performance.

29% of consumers questioned said that they desired flat-rate, unlimited broadband, while 16% said they wanted no access restrictions.

wikipedia.jpgYouGov has conducted a poll of over two-thousand UK adults, on behalf of the Lulu Blooker Prize (yes, blogs from books – blooker), and found out which Internet-inspired words are hated the most.

Top of the pile came “folksonomy”, a term used to describe a user-genreated web classification system (I have enough trouble getting my head around a taxonomy, without folk messing about with it).

Second came “blogosphere”, used to describe the universal collection of “blogs”, which came third.

Steganos launches Internet Anonym VPN to Mac: secure web surfing for OS X

steganos_internet_anonym.jpgSteganos, the European security and privacy software maker, has announced the release of its Internet Anonym VPN software for the Mac.

The service provides two functions. Firstly, it encrypts and secures the data passed between the Mac and the Internet when using publicly accessible, potentially insecure Wi-Fi hotspots.

It also claims to offer Internet anonymity, by routing all Internet traffic via Steganos’s dedicated web servers.
