MWC 2009: HTC shows off Touch Pro 2 and Touch Diamond 2

This is the HTC Touch Pro 2, newly announced by HTC in Barcelona. HTC claims that it delivers “the most powerful productivity experience available on a mobile phone”, and who are we to argue? Let’s talk specs.

The phone has a 3.6″ touchscreen at WVGA resolution, Windows Mobile 6.1, 512MB of memory (but with a microSD card slot), HSDPA, GPS, Bluetooth, a 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, FM radio and a five-row QWERTY keyboard. Phew.

Conspicuously missing when compared to rival phones are a 3.5mm headphone jack, decent operating system (Android, Android, Android), 5-megapixel camera and more internal memory. When put against the N97, this phone doesn’t really stand up too well.

Then there’s the Touch Diamond 2. It’s rather similar to the Touch Pro 2, but doesn’t have the QWERTY keyboard and has a slightly smaller touchscreen at 3.2″. It does have a slightly nicer 5-megapixel camera, though.

Other than that it’s mostly identical. Same WVGA resolution, Windows Mobile 6.1, 512MB of memory (with microSD card slot), HSDPA, GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and FM radio. Still no 3.5mm headphone jack.

Both are arriving this year, with the Diamond “Touch”-ing (sorry) down in Q2 and the Pro showing up in early summer. No pricing info yet. Personally speaking, I’d rather plump for the QWERTY over the 5-megapixel camera. How about you? Which is your favourite of the two? Let us know in the comments.

Leaked images of iPhone 2 show it's 3G, has video-chat and a Product (Red) version too

You know you have nerdlinger friends when someone texts you at 8.15 on a Saturday morning, alerting you to leaked iPhone photos. And you know you too are a nerdlinger when you get out of bed, grab your laptop, and actually write about them, even though you’d normally be asleep for hours longer. Thanks for the ruined beauty sleep, Jason!

Still, it’s news that even I can get excited about – leaked iPhone 2 photos which actually look like the real thing. There’s a second camera located on the front for video-calling (or iChat AV as it’s been dubbed), and it appears to come in two colourways – black, and red, just like the Product (Red) iPods that raised money for fighting AIDS. And yes, it IS 3G enabled…

Rumours abound about RIM's BlackBerry Pearl 2 (Komet), again

blacklberry.jpgMore rumours are floating about the intertubes regarding the BlackBerry Pearl 2 we reported on a week ago, this time with even more pants-wettingly attractive features than before. Plus, the internal code-name has been leaked also – Komet. Kind of like a poor man’s reindeer, non?

It was first thought that the Pearl 2 would have a 2-megapixel camera, but it’s since been reported by Boy Genius Report that it’s even better than that – a whopping 3.2-megapixels will ensure your upskirt-shots will be crystal clear and jail-worthy. However it won’t be as subtle to take photos as before, as the camera will be located horizontally on the Pearl 2, much like the high-end camera phones which like to masquerade as proper digital cameras…

blackberry_pearl_6.jpg
The BlackBerry Pearl has only been available for eight months, but it sounds highly probable that we’ll be seeing a second version before the year is out. Gizmodo has reported that RIM have a second one on the cards, as the first has proven extremely popular due to the streamlined aesthetics, trackball, and MicroSD port for media playback, which previous models didn’t contain.
