Fujitsu lining up gargantuan 1.2TB hard drives for notebooks

fujitsu-hard-drives.jpgFujitsu’s found a way to start charging more money for hard drives – inventing a new technology to increase their capacity.

We’ll copy the method it used directly from the Fujitsu announcement as, frankly, it’s all a bit bewildering. Apparently, “one-dimensionally aligned alumina nanohole patterns with 25nm pitch were produced to support one Terabit/in2 bit recording density.”

Dell launch Inspiron 6400n and 530n notebooks with Ubuntu Linux preinstalled

linux_penguin.gifDell continues its push into Linux-based computers with the launch of two Inspiron notebooks in Europe.

The 6400n and 530n will come with the Ubuntu 7.04 Linux operating system ready installed. According to Dell, over 30,000 community members at the Ideastorm website asked for Dell to consider launching systems with the Linux operating system, with 100,000 participating in a follow-up survey to determine which Linux system to offer.

Lenovo to auction off Olympic Torch-themed notebook PCs for global charities

Celebrating the one-year-out mark for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, Lenovo yesterday announced plans for a major philanthropic auction, with limited-edition notebook computers inspired by their 2008 Olympic Torch on offer.

From February 8th next year, at the six-month mark, week-long back-to-back auctions for these “Cloud of Promise” notebook PCs will begin, concluding just prior to the start of the Games. Several of the PCs will be autographed by athletes.

I might’ve said yesterday that I would never own a fashion mobile phone, like the new possible Samsung/Armani collaboration, but I think I’ll have to swallow my words already, less than 24 hours later, as I’d happily buy one of these fashion laptops…
