RUMOUR: New Apple MacBook laptops on 14th October

apple-product-map.jpg

We may only just have had the Apple music press conference and launch of the new iPod family but where would the internet community be if it was not exposing the next products that Apple has in store before Steve Jobs intends to? The word today is that next up is the redesign of the MacBook laptop line.

No word, as yet, on what to expect but it’s thought that 14th October…

Sony reveals Vaio CS11 in lots of colours, particularly "bubblegum pink"

sony-vaio-cs111-bubblegum.jpg

Of all the colours, we’d imagine it’ll be the bubblegum pink model that will be discounted first. That’ll have £100 knocked off its price after three months when they start piling up in the showrooms.

Then the brown one will come down in price, as we’d imagine not many people want brown laptops either.

But! What people do want at the moment is cheap, low-spec netbooks…

HP Elitebook 6930p with 24hr battery life is the Jack Bauer of laptops

hp-battery.jpg

That’s right – 24 hours. What could you do on a laptop in 24 hours? You could listen to 432 songs, or watch 11 films, or even make money on the internet. Except you probably couldn’t do those things, because published battery life always assumes a computer just sitting there, not doing anything. Using speakers, WiFi or the DVD drive, or anything will drain that battery faster…

Vaio AW

Sony describes its Vaio AW as a “new class” of portable, because it boasts a range of advanced features including a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution 18.4-inch widescreen using 3LED backlighting similar to that found on Sony’s high-end BRAVIA TVs, integrated Blu-ray drive, Dolby Home Theatre audio signal processing and 2.1-channel speakers with integrated subwoofer.

It features an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, and 128GB solid state disk and 500GB hard drive working together in a RAID array. It also comes with Adobe’s Photoshop Lightroom, which should appeal to photographers and artists using the Vaio AW for image processing…

Emtec Gdium Liberty 1000 – a netbook with an OS on a stick

Emtec-Gdium.jpg

Emtec themselves admit there’s a bit of a netbook craze at the moment in PC land (not a principality of PC World) but then, who really cares? We like these things. Well, most of us do anyway and how can it not benefit the consumer to have more choice and more competition among the manufacturers?

Anyway, that’s besides the point because the 10″ Emtec Gdium offers a twist on standard sub-notebookery with the use of that fat looking USB device at the front, known as the G-Key…

The latest burning tech: Sony recalls dodgy Vaio laptops

sony_vaio_tz_on_fire.jpg

Cast your mind back to the number of notebook batteries recalled last year due to the risk of them exploding and taking out delicate bits of anatomy on the way.

One seriously affected company was Sony, and it seems the company’s woes aren’t over yet. It’s just recalled 73,000 Vaio TZ-Series laptops sold in the US because of the potential risk of a short-circuit of wires near the hinge that could lead to users being burnt.

The telltale sign of a problem is if there’s a loose screw in the hinge. Loose, possibly, because it’s been touching up electric cables…

Dell Inspiron 910 coming tomorrow? Don't expect to be able to type properly on it

There are rumours doing the Internet rounds that Dell may finally be about to release its Inspiron 910 portable notebook PC.

We’ve been expecting it for a while now, but a Wall Street Journal source reckons it could be announced tomorrow.

Apparently, the 8.9-inch XP or Linux notebook will be easy to upgrade various aspects of the PC, including memory and solid-state drive, thanks to their easy accessibility from the base panel.
