Hackers post personal data of 9 million airport customers, Uber laying off 10,000 staff
Criminal hackers have posted the personal data of nearly nine million people online after breaching three UK airports. Hackers extorted Manchester Airports Group (MAG) for an undisclosed amount but failed to get their ransom paid. Customers of Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands airports are being warned of secondary attacks as the data is now available to other criminals. “MAG is confident that we have taken effective measures to protect our customers and we have contacted all those affected, including reaching out to all those with upcoming bookings to advise them of additional support,” the company said in a statement. The US startup behind the Claude chatbot has admitted a series of hacking incidents involving its models reflected a “failure of operational security” and said it has tightened its testing procedures. Anthropic revealed in July that its models had accessed the open internet three times and gained unauthorised access to the systems of three organisations. In a new blogpost on the incidents, the company admitted its technology was “not perfectly aligned” with human values and goals. The Guardian

Uber is laying off about 3,300 people, or about 10% of its global headcount, in a bid to cut management layers and invest more in its ride-sharing, delivery and robotaxi divisions. The company announced the changes in an internal email sent by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi and published online Wednesday. According to the email, the layoffs are part of a restructuring exercise that would shrink the number of managers by 20%, and some personnel in these roles would work as individual contributors going forward. Polestar is looking to build on the success of its best-selling model by adding more space and cutting its price. The new SUV version of the Polestar 4 gains a bigger boot, updated interior tech and a reinstated rear window in a bid to take on rivals such as the BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric – and a starting price of £54,750 makes it £2000 cheaper than its sleeker sibling. Pixel phones already give you plenty of detail about where your battery is being hogged, but Google is adding a simpler way to make sense of it. It looks like the new Battery Usage Summary feature is now rolling out to Pixel 10 and later devices. A screenshot shared with us by Telegram user @avasthiamit shows the summary appearing at the top of the Battery usage page. In this example, the phone highlights that around 15% of the battery has been used, says this is more than usual for that time of day, and identifies WhatsApp and Google as the biggest power users.
