Apple has officially rolled out iOS 27 to compatible devices worldwide. Rather than superficial gimmicks, this year’s major operating system update focuses on deeper intelligence integration, speed improvements and practical everyday controls.

At the heart of the new release is a much-needed, re-engineered, AI-powered Siri that, Apple claims, transforms your device into a truly proactive companion. Alongside smarter browser capabilities and refined editing tools, here are the standout features you should test out right away.

1. Revamped Siri AI

Siri has received its most substantial architectural overhaul to date, shifting from rigid keyword command parsing to a conversational, context-aware engine. Powered by deeper Apple Intelligence integration, the assistant maintains a dedicated app and screen-aware overlay that reads active context across messages, emails and photos. Users can ask open-ended lifestyle queries or trigger multi-step, cross-app actions locally without losing thread history.

Apple claims Siri understands your personal context and can find relevant answers to what you’re looking for, just by asking. For example, you can search for a photo from years ago, easily locate an email buried in your inbox or pull up a note you saved on your iPhone.

2. Smarter Safari browsing

Apple’s native browser cuts down digital clutter through automated classification and background monitoring. Organize by Topic sorts dozens of chaotic open tabs into logical project buckets such as  research or shopping, while Notify Me tracks specific product webpages for stock and price fluctuations. You spend less time manually auditing browser states and more time consuming content.

Reframe a photo after it’s been taken with Spatial Reframing. Expand your shots with the Extend tool. And remove even larger objects with the enhanced Clean Up tool.

3. Next-level photo editing

The Photos app gains a trio of generative intelligence tools designed to salvage imperfect shots on the fly. The Extend tool seamlessly fills out tighter crops with contextual background generation for lock screens, while Spatial Reframing lets you subtly tilt perspective after capture. Finally, there’s Clean Up (alongside cleaner background removal for photobombers and custom album slideshow exports), which handles removing distractions and background elements from photos.

4. Custom AirPods equaliser

Audio enthusiasts now have native system-level frequency control without needing third-party utility workarounds. iOS 27 introduces a dedicated three-band equaliser under AirPods settings for supported hardware, letting users adjust low frequencies, vocals, and treble across streaming apps and system sounds alike.

5. Liquid glass customisation and independent alarms

Refining last year’s visual language, iOS 27 adds a dedicated transparency and contrast slider for Liquid Glass system chrome, reducing glare in bright outdoor conditions. Simultaneously, independent alarm volume controls fix a perennial annoyance by decoupling wake-up audio from general device ringer settings.
