OpenAI slows down training after hack, launches ChatGPT for Teens

OpenAI says it has slowed down training some of its most advanced AI models to improve security. In a blog post, the ChatGPT-maker said it was introducing new measures after its AI agents autonomously bypassed safeguards and hacked the tech start-up Hugging Face. It said training would be slowed for two weeks while it puts the upgrades in place. “The capabilities of frontier models are rapidly accelerating,” the company said. “Our ability to understand…and secure them must stay ahead.” BBC 

OpenAI is launching a version of ChatGPT designed for teenagers – the first generation to grow up with artificial intelligence – who are already using it for schoolwork, questions about daily life and even companionship. The San Francisco-based company says ChatGPT for Teens, which launches on Tuesday, is tailored for children aged 13 to 17 with stronger protections including content restrictions around things such as suicide, self-harm and romantic or sexual chats. A NASA spacecraft has captured images of a new crater on the moon after a SpaceX rocket crashed into the surface. The abandoned Falcon made contact with the equivalent power of three tonnes of dynamite earlier this month, having been drifting through space for more than a year. NASA released before and after pictures on Tuesday showing its impact in the greatest detail yet. Scientists said the crater appears to be around 60ft across and 10ft deep. Dark and bright streaks can be seen emanating from the crater. Sky News 

Meta is about to face a reckoning, of the kind that could dramatically change Instagram and Facebook, and could even threaten their existence. Electric vehicle specialist Voltempo is developing a cabless, autonomous rigid lorry that’s 15.6m long, exceeding the current maximum length for a non-articulated lorry, which the company claims will maximise space and payload. The prototype aims to extend a rigid truck’s proportions and capacity beyond the current maximums of 12m, 32 tonnes and four axles to 15.6m, 42 tonnes and five axles, making it the same length as a coach. Removing the cab frees up weight and space, creating what Voltempo founder and corporate development officer Michael Boxwell dubbed a “smart trailer”. Autocar

Google Photos is one of the best cloud backup options for photos and videos on Android, especially if you prefer a set-and-forget approach (as long as you have free storage).
