UN warns AI may worsen global inequality, OpenAI considers handing White House ChatGPT share

A new United Nations report warns that the development of artificial intelligence may exacerbate global inequality and proposes a shared framework for how to responsibly develop AI, as adoption and investment into the technology accelerates unevenly across the world. “The more AI advances without shared rules, the less say governments and people will have in the outcome,” said António Guterres, the UN secretary general, at a press conference on Wednesday. “Our message to governments is simple: do not wait … the science is here. We can no longer say we did not know what we do.” The Guardian 

OpenAI is considering handing a 5pc stake worth $43bn (£32bn) to the US government as part of plans to boost ties with Donald Trump. Sam Altman, the ChatGPT maker’s chief executive, has put forward the offer in recent discussions with the White House in anticipation of a $1tn stock market listing, according to the Financial Times. Mr Trump has previously confirmed discussions with the major AI companies about the US taxpayer obtaining stakes in them, saying it would be a “beautiful thing” that would make the public rich. New PlayStation games will no longer be released on discs from January 2028, the gaming giant has announced. Sony said in a blog postnew games would still be able to be bought in shops, but they would come with a digital code. It comes just days after Rockstar announced the hotly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI would similarly launch without a physical disc. It marks a significant moment for the gaming industry, which has in recent years begun to rely more and more on digital distribution. BBC 

Donald Trump earned more than $1.4bn from his family’s cryptocurrency ventures last year – all while pursuing policies to benefit the industry. A new financial disclosure reveals that the US president received $635m (£479m) of this income from “memecoins” bearing his name. China’s best-selling car, the Geely EX2, will go on sale in the UK in August. It will be the third model the Chinese brand has launched here, after the EX5 EV and Starray PHEV. The EX2 is a small electric hatchback sized to compete with the forthcoming Hyundai Ioniq 3 and Volkswagen ID Polo, with seating for five. In China, where it’s known as the Xingyuan, it’s powered by a single rear-mounted motor with an output of either 78bhp or 114bhp. Autocar
