SpaceX is taking its mission to the next level by betting big on Artificial Intelligence, using its post-IPO cash to supercharge its tech and talent.

Fresh off a valuation that topped $2 trillion, the space giant is moving fast to weave advanced AI into every corner of its business – from how it builds rockets to how it handles government contracts.

A major part of this shift is the acquisition of Anysphere, the company behind the popular AI coding tool “Cursor.” This isn’t just about software but a strategic move to ensure SpaceX has the best tools in-house to build the next generation of space travel.

According to analysis from GlobalData, a leading intelligence and productivity platform, this aggressive recruitment and M&A activity is part of a calculated strategy. “The hiring momentum, alongside the landmark acquisition of Cursor, points to SpaceX sharpening its post-IPO playbook,” says Sherla Sriprada, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData.

“It signals a focused push to deepen in-house AI engineering capacity while using targeted moves to accelerate capability build-out”.

If you look at the company’s latest job openings, it’s clear they are searching for top-tier tech talent, including roles that require “Top Secret” security clearance. These new engineers will be working on bringing powerful AI models (like the Grok family) into the fold, helping SpaceX bridge the gap between complex government data systems and their own high-tech platforms.

Nor is the AI push just for government work. Behind the scenes, SpaceX is hiring software engineers to overhaul how they build vehicles. By using machine learning to crunch years of engineering data, they hope to make building spacecraft faster, smarter, and more autonomous.

Ultimately, these investments are about staying ahead of the competition. As GlobalData analyst Sherla Sriprada points out: “SpaceX’s growing investment in AI infrastructure, specialized talent, and strategic acquisitions could accelerate innovation cycles, enable more autonomous engineering workflows, enhance operational decision-making, and strengthen the company’s competitive position”.
